The Chairman of the Senate ad hoc Committee on Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye, on Tuesday, tore the Peoples Democratic Party membership card of the immediate past commissioner representing Cross River State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Paul Adah.
Melaye also tore the party’s constitution as the former NDDC commissioner joined the ranks of eminent PDP stalwarts that have defected to the All Progressives Congress in the state.
At a rally held at the APC ward secretariat in Ohong-Begiadang community of the Obudu Local Government Area, Melaye, who represents Kogi-West senatorial district, said there was no doubt that the party would take over power from the PDP in the state.
The Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade, is from Obudu LGA.
Present at the event was the National Vice-Chairman of the APC, South-South, Mr. Hilliard Eta, while the immediate past Senate Majority Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, and a former governor of the state, Chief Clement Ebri, were among those who had already identified with the APC.
According to Melaye, any election in the state will not favour the PDP.
He said the APC was a progressive party that would rescue the country from the rot it had suffered.
While tearing the PDP constitution, he said the party was responsible for all the problems the country was facing.
“The PDP is responsible for all the problems that we are facing in Nigeria today,” Melaye said.
Registering in his ward, Adah said he wanted to identify with the spirit of change after resigning his membership of the PDP which he belonged to for 15 years.
Adah, who also represented the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra federal constituency in the House of Representatives, promised to work hard to bring change to the state.
Ward chairman of the APC, Mr. Charles Betelwhobel, who expressed delight over the development, said the PDP was losing its hold on the state.
He expressed the hope that the APC would take over power in the state.
Also speaking, Eta, who welcomed Adah and other defectors from the area into the party, promised that they would enjoy all the rights and privileges of every other member.
