Five Deputy Comptroller-Generals Of Nigeria Customs Resign

All five Deputy Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service have resigned their resignation today, October 29.  The senior officers who jointly wrote a one-page letter said they were all unanimously and voluntarily resigning from the service of the Nigeria Customs Service having risen to their current position. According to Skytrend News, the officers were billed to proceed on annual leave but they opted to unanimously resign. There are a total of six Deputy Comptroller-Generals in the Nigeria Customs,  but a source who chose to be anonymous disclosed that the sixth one had earlier retired. The source further revealed that before now, the five Deputy Comptroller-Generals were briefly posted to Zonal Offices to work with the Assistant Comptroller-Generals. After they came back from the assignment, they were given letters to proceed on a schedule of annual leave. See a copy of their letter below:

APC says No more division in the party

The All Progressives Congress has said the confirmation of all the ministerial nominees by the Senate, despite some misgivings by the opposition party, has shown there was no longer any division within the APC family. In a release on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party stated that the cohesion displayed by the APC senators indicated that the lawmakers were ready to work with the executive. The party said, ”The cohesion and unity exhibited by the APC Senators on Thursday have shown that our legislators are ready to work with the executive and the party to ensure that the agenda of the party is implemented for the benefit of all Nigerians.” It added that the party commended all its members and leaders in the Senate including the leadership of the APC for the show of unity. Plane Catches Fire at Fort Lauderdale International Airport

Seven people were injured and three were taken to local hospitals after a Dynamic Airways plane caught fire at Fort Lauderdale International Airport on Thursday. FAA officials said that the Boeing 767 caught fire while taxiing for departure. A pilot in an aircraft traveling behind it reported that fuel was leaking from the plane before the fire started. Smoke was billowing from the plane before firefighters doused it with foam. Passengers evacuated the plane by sliding onto the runway, officials said. It is unknown how many passengers were on board or how serious the injuries may be. However, Dynamic has said on its website that its Boeing 767 aircrafts can accommodate up to 250 people.

Appeal court decides Saraki’s CCT trial on Friday

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal will on Friday (tomorrow) decide on whether or not to quash the charges of false asset declaration preferred against Senate President Bukola Saraki before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Comedian to launch Christian nightclub in Lekki, Lagos

The comedian is set to launch a ‘Christian’ nightclub in Lekki, Lagos. The nightclub will not serve alcohol, and no smoking will be allowed on the premises. Since his successful brain surgery in May, comedian  Julius Agwu  has been living a very Christian lifestyle. Julius Agwu is set to release a new single called ‘ 2 Chance ’ which is a thanksgiving track to God for sparing his life. He has already shot the video for the song. Now, the comedian is set to launch a ‘Christian’ nightclub in Lekki, Lagos. The nightclub will not serve alcohol, and no smoking will be allowed on the premises. Julius Agwu and Rotimi  (Instagram ) The name of the nightclub is ‘ Believer’s Lounge ’. Also Julius Agwu plans on launching his own TV show called ‘ C.E.O ’ which means Christian Entertainer’s Outreach. Dele Giwa's Murder: Soyinka replies ex-Police DIG, Omeben

A former London Bureau chief of Newswatch, Kayode Soyinka, who was present when Dele Giwa, the co-founder of the magazine was bombed to death in 1986, has reacted to recent claims by a retired police investigator that Mr. Soyinka fled after the attack and was never questioned. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, published Monday, Chris Omeben, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, who was in charge of investigating the murder, said Mr. Soyinka was shielded from being quizzed. Mr. Giwa was killed through a letter bomb while having breakfast with Mr. Soyinka in Lagos. Mr. Omeben, now 80, said Mr. Soyinka was the principal suspect in the attack, and wondered how he survived the powerful blast when he was in the same room. He said Mr. Soyinka apparently left the scene shortly before the explosion. Plateau State PDP 2015 governorship candidate, Gyang Pwajok, is dead

The Plateau State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 elections, Gyang Pwajok, is dead. The Head of his media team during the electioneering, Chuwang Dung, confirmed the development to journalists in Jos, via a telephone interview. He however said an official statement would be issued by the late Mr. Pwajok’s family later. Sources close to the late politician had told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Pwajok died late Wednesday in an Indian hospital. Mr. Pwajok, a former senator, was the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2015 general election. He narrowly lost the election to Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress. He was also the immediate past senator for Plateau northern senatorial district. Mr. Pwajok succeeded late Senator Gyang Dantong, who died of shock while attending a mass burial of persons killed by insurgents in Barkinladi in 2012.

Amaechi is listed at number 18 among those to be confirmed The listing of the ex- governor as the last to be confirmed may have been informed by the controversy his nomination has generated.

Jamb Sets New Rules For 2016/2017 Admissions

Protest in Ibadan as teacher flogs student to death

Students of IMG Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, on Wednesday, went on rampage following the death of one of their colleagues allegedly flogged to death by a teacher. The student reportedly slumped and gave up the ghost as a result of the severe punishment from a teacher for arriving late to school. Invaluable properties of the school were destroyed by the students who took to protest before the members of Nigerian police force came to rescue the situation. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as at press time while policemen had cordoned off the area. '12 Years A Slave’  star  Chinwetel Ejiofor  was recently made a  Commander of the order of the British Empire. The actor received the award from the  Duke of Cambridge, Prince William , during an official ceremony held at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday, October 26, 2015. The actor, who grew up in London, received the recognition for his service to drama. Discussing his CBE award, his sister, CNN presenter  Zain Asher , said the BAFTA award winner always dreamt of acting. "He's been acting since he was 13 years old and he's worked so hard for this.
