Finance minister, Customs CG in exchange of words over budget before Senate

What could have become a major embarrassment was averted yesterday as Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) engaged Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun in a hot exchange of words over the 2016 budget. Both had appeared before the Senate Committee on Finance chaired by Senator John Owan Enoh with managements of high profile revenue agencies to defend the ministry’s budget proposal. Tempers between both political appointees of President Muhammadu Buhari rose when the proposal for an increase of Customs officers pay came and the minister objected to it. She chided the agency for asking for pay rise at the point that the nation is broke claiming also that there are discrepancies in the balance sheet of the Nigeria Customs Service and advised it to sit up. National University Commission Pilot Graduate Tracer Study Program 2016

The National Universities Commission in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is conducting a Pilot Graduate Tracer Study of selected universities in the Nigerian University System. National University Commission Pilot Graduate Tracer Study Objective of the Study The main objective of the study is to trace the employability status as well as on the job satisfaction of Science and Engineering graduates of the under-listed universities from 2009 to 2014 in comparison with their skills and knowledge acquired from the university. Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o is part of the critically-acclaimed Broadway production “Eclipsed,” an intense play about a five extraordinary women being held captive in Liberia. CPC has directed MTN Communications Limited to pay 1.85 million Naira to one of the winners of its Ultimate Wonder Promo for lack of due diligence. The order of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) came on the heels of a complaint brought by Mr Omeje Fidelis against the mobile telecommunications giant that he had been underpaid after he was declared winner of two million Naira in the said sales promotion held in 2012. According to Omeje, he participated in the promo and was called through MTN line 180 on October 10, 2012, that he had won two million Naira in the Ultimate Wonder Promo and that on October 12 of the same year, he got a text message informing him of the presentation ceremony fixed for October 19 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The complainant asserted that during the said ceremony, he was presented with a dummy cheque of two million Naira with his name on it while he was interviewed as well as paraded before the media and the world as a winner...

Babangida demands answers On Aso Rock rent, condemns 2016 budget.

Former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, has lend his voice to the criticism currently accompanying the 2016 national budget that was presented to the National Assembly last year December by President Muhammadu Buhari. The former president in his reaction to the ongoing criticism trailing the alleged payment of rent in the Aso Rock,  requested to know who the landlord is. He also advised the country’s politicians, saying: “I strongly believe our Politicians are well fed. The Aso Rock food budget should be reviewed. Aso Rock is not a place to feed Politicians.” Buhari, who hammered so hard on the economic challenges facing the country following the sudden fall in crude oil prices, assured Nigerians that the budget would mitigate the effect of the unbelievable reality. Student dies because of N 35,000 at Yabatech colleague’s protest her death

Academic activities were on Wednesday obstructed at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos State following the death of a High National Diploma (HND) 2 student. According to sources, Students blame the death of the female student on the Medical team of the College for negligence. “They didn’t attend to her when she was brought in alive. They insisted that those who brought her must deposit N35,000 before they would attend to her. “In fact, when she was confirmed dead, they still didn’t attend to her corpse with foam in her mouth. This is wicked,” President of UNICAS lamented. The deceased was studying Office Technology and Management at the College before her death. As at the time of filling this report, the family members of the deceased have arrived and the corpse has been moved to Atan Cementry.
