Senate minority leader and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that he was arrested by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission EFCC today as earlier reported....It was reported that Akpabio, was arrested and taken in by EFCC operatives at about 5.20 pm. A Nigerian schoolgirl, Victoria Yohanna, was invited by the House of Lords, the second chamber of UK Parliament, to narrate her terrifying ordeal during one of the biggest ever mass abductions carried out by the Boko Haram sect. According to The Telegraph, a 15-year-old girl was one of more than 400 people abducted by the terrorists during an attack on the north-east Nigerian town of Baga in January. October 13, Victoria, who managed to escape, will recount her experiences to an audience at the House of Lords. The event will mark the launch of a major new report on the persecution of Christians worldwide, which has been compiled by the charity Aid to the Church in Need. EFCC Interrogates Ex-Governor Akpabio Over Alleged Multi-Billion Naira Fraud

A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and incumbent Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, was on Friday arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. PREMIUM TIMES investigation shows that Mr. Akpabio was taken in by EFCC operatives at about 5.20 pm. He was said to have been accompanied a few aides and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ricky Tarfa. An aide to the former governor, who cannot be named because he is not authorised to speak on the matter told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Akpabio is currently being interrogated by top officials of the EFCC. An EFCC source confirmed the development. The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, did not answer or return calls seeking comment for this story. The EFCC had begun investigation into alleged theft of N108.1billion of Akwa Ibom funds by the former governor in June.
