NIGERIA’S FIRST EVER HIGH SPEED TRAIN SERVICE INITIATED BY GOODLUCK JONATHAN SET FOR COMMISSIONING

Nigeria’s first ever high speed train service will open for service in March 2016. It is the double-track, standard gauge between Abuja and Kaduna that runs at 120Km and 150 Km an hour. Come March, travelers will be able to journey from Abuja to Kaduna (and vice-versa) in less than an hour. The project which was just completed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) cost $849 million. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Adeseyi Sijuwade while addressing the media in Lagos said “Next month, we’ll be taking delivery of modern coaches to run on the standard gauge line, specifically for the Abuja-Kaduna line, so that that service can commence immediately,” According to him, the corporation was looking at a February-March timeline to commence delivery of services. Abe Vigoda, Star of The Godfather and Barney Miller, Dies at 94.

Legendary character actor Abe Vigoda has died at the age of 94. Vigoda, famous for playing detective Phil Fish in Barney Miller, died in his sleep Tuesday morning at his daughter Carol Vigoda Fuchs' home in Woodland Park, New Jersey, she confirmed to the Associated Press. Fuchs reports the cause of death as old age, saying, "This man was never sick." In addition to his role on Barney Miller, Vigoda is best known for playing the traitorous Corleone henchman Sal Tessio in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Vigoda's death has been erroneously reported numerous times in the past, with Vigoda once telling The New York Times, "People have known for some time that I'm alive. People don't seem to stop and ask me anymore." The New York City native was born in 1921, and attended the Theater School of Dramatic Arts at Carnegie Hall. Women Protest Lack Of Men To Impregnate Them

Women in Kenya, Ndeiya ward say their drunkard husbands are unable to sire children and they may look elsewhere for sober bedmates. They said their men have abandoned their homes because of drinking too much illicit brew. Speaking during a peaceful protest at Thigio shopping centre on, the demonstrators said younger women are the worst affected as they are “unproductive”. “If you walk in this village, you will find so many young married women, but only a few are pregnant. Those who are not are suffering in silence because their men cannot perform,” resident Nancy Wangare said. She said men have been drinking anything alcoholic to keep them high, but society bears the consequences of sexual dysfunction. A disabled man who has refused to let his disability to define him, has been pictured on the streets hustling despite his condition. The picture above of the cripled man who was still going about mending shoes on the streets, was captured somewhere in Lagos and has motivated several people on social media. Obviously the man is crippled but his mind is definitely not. The young man has refused to be limited by his condition. Although he has one bad leg, he knows that at least he has functional hands to mend shoes. He is an inspiration.

FG may earn N2.5bn daily from stamp duty policy

Over 50 million active accounts in the banking sector will be enlisted in the new revenue drive of the Federal Government with the takeoff of the N50 stamp duty on financial transactions. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has already communicated the commencement of the N50 stamp duty deduction on receipt of financial value of N1000 and above from bank accounts to financial institutions. However, only transfers from personal account to another personal account, both at the same bank or another bank are exempted from the charge. With the act already in force, there are projections that the total number of direct cash lodgements in various accounts in banks, the transfer of cash arising from Point of Sale, Automated Teller Machines and mobile money transactions, among others, may hit 50 million in volume per day, with an estimated value of about N2.5 billion daily.
