LASU Governing Council Orders Re-Issuance Of ASUU Chairman’s Phd Certificate

The Lagos State University (LASU) Governing Council had directed the institution’s management to re-issue the withdrawn PhD Certificate of Dr Adekunle Idris, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). LASU chapter.
Mr Akin Lewis, LASU Registrar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the processes for the re-issuance of the certificate were ongoing.
According to Lewis, every directive given by the institution’s governing council must be adhered to as it is the policy maker.
“The Governing Council had deliberated and taught it wise to re-issue the certificate, and as such gave a directive, so our responsibility is to implement the directive,” he said.
Idris also confirmed to NAN that the directive was true but that he was ‎yet to receive the re-issued certificate.
‎NAN reports that the Senate of the institution under the former Vice- Chancellor, Prof John Obafunwa, had withdrawn 19 PhD certificates over what it as error in the titles of the certificates issued.
The 19 certificates included that of Idris‎ and one Dr Adeoye Yusuf.
Seventeen out of the 19 certificates withdrawn were later re-issued ‎to the affected persons after clarification, while those of Idris and Yusuf were withheld.
The ASUU Lagos Zone, however, accused LASU management of using the withdrawn certificates to witch-hunt some of its members over the crisis rocking the institution.
The newly inaugurated Governing Council led by Prof. Adebayo Ninalowo had constituted a six-man ad-hoc committee to look into issues confronting the institution, including the certificate withdrawal. (NAN)
