Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets trash Australia 6-0

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are through to the quarter finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile following their 6-0 demolition of Australia early Thursday morning.
A hat trick from Victor Osimhen and other goals from the trio of Kelechi Nwakali, Edidiong Michael Essien and then Samuel Chukwueze ensured that Nigeria maintained her long time dominance over the Aussies who were initially seen as a tricky side.
While the early exchanges in the Round of 16 clash at the Estadio SausalitoVina Del Mar were initially balanced, the Eaglets required just three minutes to pull away.
In the 22nd minute, Osimhen set the tone for the day’s goals feast when he surged forward with pace and power on the left, before turning his defender and sliding the ball impressively inside the far post.
Barely three minutes later, Nigeria’s lead was doubled up when Funsho Bamgboye was brought down in the penalty area, and Nwakali coolly slotted home the resultant penalty.
Nigeria continued their powerful performance after the break, and although Australia dominated possession for periods, it was the Eaglets that did all the scoring which mattered most.
Osimhen scored twice in the space of six minutes and the duo of Essien and Chukwueze added one each to totally deflate the Aussies and storm into the last eight in confident fashion.
Interestingly, the Eaglets will have their hands full in the quarter finals where they are going to be facing another football power house, Brazil, on Sunday, November 1st.
