The chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged to have frustrated President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption strategy.
Sun Newspaper reports that the APC leaders are extorting money from ministers and major officials of the immediate past government of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.
The senior members of the ruling party and security personnel are said to be defrauding ex-ministers and top government officials in Jonathan’s administration of millions of naira.
The former government minister official, who pledged to be anonymous, disclosed that the people frequently offer to help former ministers to either stop the probe or set up a soft landing if they would part with a discussed amount of money in cash.
The source said: “These days, what we see and hear everyday from security men and key members of the ruling party is that this and that probe is going on at the EFCC against Jonathan’s men. They will tell you to bring so so amount of money to enable them stop the probe.
“Out of fear, some of us accede to their requests…”
He added that targets comprise ministers like Works, Aviation, Transport, Water Resources, Federal Capital Territory and Education continuing that some PDP members were working close with APC members to cheat them.
An assistant to one of the ex-ministers confirming the claims said what he defined as an“obnoxious development where some APC members were terrorising members of Jonathan’s cabinet with threats of investigations with a view to “extorting money” from them.”

Meanwhile, he did not name such APC chieftains or those in the corridors of power who were ripping former officials off.
According to the ex-government official, the fear that the current government is after the ex-president and those that worked with him is increasing.
The source warned that unless President Buhari sets up a balance in the anti-corruption war by redressing what he said was a skewed clampdown on the opposition, the culture of extortion will persist thereby fueling hate and more corruption.
The incumbent Nigerian leader had many times assured Nigerians that he was not on a mission to witch-hunt or victimise anybody.
After assuming office in May, Muhammadu Buhari pledged to wage war on corruption in Nigeria’s opaque petroleum sector, and the Nigerian leader has taken some steps to keep his promise.
