Following the screening of six ministerial nominees at the upper chamber of the National Assembly today.
1. The recitation of the National Pledge by one of the nominees.
During the question and answer session for the nominees today, one of the nominees, Zainab Shamshuna Ahmed, was asked to recite the national pledge, to show her loyalty to the Nigerian cause, which she did expertly, before attending to other questions.
2. Nominee’s ‘God forbid’ response to a question by a Senator.
Pastor Usani Uguru, who was also on the nominees’ list, played out a mild drama during the process when he was asked a question on if he has worked with any PDP senator.
His response; “God forbid” got on the wrong side of Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, who demanded an immediate retract of the statement.
The pastor immediately tendered his apology and the screening continued.
3. Power outage:
And while the session was still on, there was power outage inside the complex, a situation which did not stop the screening.
The Senators continued with the screening until power was restored into the building.
4. Brigadier Ali’s wrong exit:
Apparently excited about the fact that he had successfully answered questions posed by the senators, Brigadier Mansur Mohammed Dan’ali (rtd) from Zamfara missed his way out of the screening box.
He was only called to order by the senators, who asked him to take a bow again and leave via the appropriate route.
5. “I cannot say exactly what I will do for now”
And in yet a rather interesting session, another nominee, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, said he does not know what to do when he gets into office.
This was after a poser by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, who asked: “If you are given FCT, can you share with us your own ideas that you will implement in that sector?”
He responded: “Right now I cannot say exactly what I will do, I have to go in first to see the areas that needs to be touched.“
The ministerial screening will continue tomorrow after the session was adjourned today.
