1.3 Million Electorates Eligible To Vote In Kogi Election - INEC

Kogi  Election Ahead of the governorship election in Kogi State, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that about 1,397, 780 voters are eligible to vote.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in State, Mallam Hussaini Halilu Pai gave the figure on Friday at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja when presenting a clean copy of Voters Register to the 23 political parties participating in the governorship election.
He noted that the idea was to enlighten the major stakeholders of the current figures of those eligible to participate in the election.
Political parties head and representatives, security agencies, civil societies, and pressmen were at the INEC’s office in Lokoja for the official presentation of soft copies of the Voters Register to all political parties participating in the forthcoming election in the state.
While performing the ceremony, the Resident Electoral Commissioner said the event was held to enlighten the major stakeholders of the current figures of those eligible to vote in the November 21 governorship election in Kogi State.
He urged those yet to collect their Permanent Voters Card to collect them, as they would only be allowed to vote with it.
Abide By The Rules
At the briefing, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the police were also making preparation in area of security.
Mr Ojukwu warned politicians to abide by the rules of the game, urging them to strictly go by the peace accord signed recently.
The Police Commissioner said the law would take its cause on any politician no matter how highly place.
He also noted that the police had mapped out some strategies to enable them maintain peace before and after the election of November 21.
The Governor of the state, Capt. Idris Wada, of the Peoples Democratic Party will vie for the governorship position along side other candidates.
In August Capt. Wada was declared the winner of the Kogi State PDP governorship primaryelection which took place at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.
In an acceptance speech, Governor Wada pledged that he would continue to consolidate on the dividends of democracy and the transformation agenda of the state.
