When a user of the Dot Watch gets a text message, the watch vibrates and small pins on its surface rise and fall to bring up 4 braille characters at a time. There hasn’t really been any genuine innovation as regards technology that makes life easier for the blind in the society in the past 15 years. Until now. A US company has come with something truly wonderful – a smartwatch for blind people. The folks at  Dot Inc.  have come up with a smartwatch that can translate emails, text and notifications from normal digital text to braille, making life much easier for blind people. Eric Ju Yoon Kim , CEO of Dot Inc., was in the University of Washington when he attended a meeting in which a blind student attended with a gigantic book in hand. The book was the Bible translated in braille. FG To Reduce Petrol To N85 Per litre From January 1, 2016

The Federal Government would on January 1 next year reduce the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N85 per litre. The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu broke the news to journalists in the Port Hacourt Refinery Company (PHRC), where he spent Christmas inspecting the plant. Asked when would the Federal Government release the new price template of the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulation Agency (PPPRA), he said that he approved the new price for the agency on Thursday. Pressed to reveal when the new price will become effective, Kachikwu, who is also the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said “like I said, we have done a modulation calculation and it is showing us below N87. I imagine that if PPPRA publishes it today, it will become effective immediately. Many lives lost as gas depot explodes in Nnewi, Anambra state

Many people have been reported dead after a Gas Depot owned by Chicason Group and located along traffic light at Nnewi-Okigwe road behind Innoson Motor Manufacturing industry in Nnewi, Anambra state exploded on Thursday. The fire reportedly destroyed the Depot and its surroundings including some buildings and cars around it. Workers, customers and motorcyclists were among those killed. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Victims of the explosion were moved to the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH).

Tajikistan bans Christmas and new year celebrations

Tajikistan has tightened restrictions on festive season celebrations, banning Christmas trees and gift-giving in schools. This year’s measures are the toughest yet implemented by the country, which has been toning down Christmas and new year celebrations for some time – banning Father Frost, Russia’s version of Santa Claus, from television screens in 2013. A decree by the education ministry prohibits “the use of fireworks, festive meals, gift-giving and raising money” over new year as well as “the installation of a Christmas tree either living (felled wood) or artificial” in schools and universities. While other former Soviet states have set up large Christmas trees on the main squares of major cities, a tree will only appear briefly before new year in the capital, Dushanbe.
