Blockchain welcomes Canadian Mint on its platform

The Royal Canadian Mint has joined a blockchain platform run by Goldmoney Inc, the first time in the world that mint-vaulted bullion has been traded on such a private digital ledger, the Canadian fintech company said on Wednesday. The deal "lays the groundwork for further integrations by other countries and other mints," Roy Sebag, Goldmoney's chief executive officer, said in a phone interview. Blockchain first emerged as the system underpinning digital currency bitcoin. The technology creates a shared electronic ledger that allows all parties to track information through a secure network, with no need for third-party verification. "It's no different than what gold or silver used to do, but in digital form," Sebag said. "You're circumventing the banking system and you're able to exchange value instantly with no settlement delays." The Mint plans to extend its relationship with Goldmoney in order to promote Canada's "lea...

Yahya Jammeh, President Of Gambia I Will Not Step Down.

BANJUL Dec 21 - Gambian President Yahya Jammeh said he would not step down and condemned mediation by West African regional bloc ECOWAS that aims to get him to leave power after he lost a Dec. 1 election to challenger Adama Barrow.     The comments on state television late on Tuesday were a hardening of the veteran president's position after days in which hopes mounted he could be persuaded to hand over power at the end of his mandate on Jan. 18, when Barrow is due to be inaugurated.     "I am not a coward. My right cannot be intimidated and violated. This is my position. Nobody can deprive me of that victory except the Almighty Allah," Jammeh said.     "Already the ECOWAS meeting was a formality. Before they came, they had already said Jammeh must step down. I will not step down," he said.     Jammeh initially accepted the results of an election whose outcome was seen across Africa as a moment of hope. He is accused by human...

Trump's Budget Chief Is a Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Advocate

It seems the election of Donald Trump could spell great news for American blockchain startups and cryptocurrency users. President-elect Trump has added to his cabinet an active and vocal supporter of cryptocurrencies and blockchain which means that there will be at least one powerful voice in the US government that will resist further efforts to legislate the technology into oblivion. To unlock the Asian market, register now to the iFX EXPO in Hong Kong. Trump picked Congressman Mick Mulvaney, Tea Party Republican, as his administration’s Director of Office of Management and Budget. He is considered a staunch fiscal conservative that wishes to drastically limit the federal government’s spending on social programs. Just this September he was among the founders of the bipartisan Blockchain Caucus. Commonly called the Bitcoin Caucus by American media, it is meant to help congressmen stay up to speed on cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies, and develop policies that advance t...

Nigeria’s CBN May Legalise Use of trending Crypto currency Bitcoin For Transactions

Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, the Managing Director, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission (NDIC), on Friday said the commission and CBN had set up a committee to look into the trending digital currency, Bitcoin. According to Bitcoin.org, Bitcoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. Bitcoin is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls Bitcoin and everyone can take part. On Bitcoin reddit page, it was explained that it is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralised digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, naira- bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation, devaluation, import policies, currency fixing and corrupt banks. It is a true floating currency whos...

Senator Shehu Sani speaks on comment accredited to him on the rejection of the EFCC boss

Senator Shehu Sani Magu, my attention has been drawn to a fabricated, concocted, mischievously assembled statement credited to me by those opposed to Mr Magu, trying to use my name to strengthen their position. My personal opinion on this is simple. Magu is doing a good job as the Boss of the EFCC.All that is needed is the rule of law and fundamental human rights elements which need to be strongly observed by the commission, rule of law remains the most potent weapon in the fight against corruption.I remained respectfully bound by the majority position of the Senate on the issue, but wish to categorically and unambiguously state that I'm personally impressed with his performance.

Change Your Password as Yahoo has been hacked — again.

Yahoo has been hacked — again. News that the struggling internet company was breached back in 2013, and the personal information of more than one billion of its users was stolen, should serve as a reminder that everyone's email and personal information is vulnerable to hacking. Safeguards you can take include creating strong passwords and changing them when you have to. Yes, all this is a pain, and it's not your fault that the tech industry hasn't been able to stem the rise in security breaches. But if you do nothing, you could be putting your personal or financial information — or even your identity — at risk. What's a good password? The more complicated and lengthy a password is, the harder it will be for hackers to guess. Don't include your kids' names, birthdays or references to any other personal details. Hackers routinely troll Facebook and Twitter for clues to passwords like these. Obvious and default passwords such as "Password123" are...
