CPC CONCLUDES INVESTIGATION ON DSTV AND ORDERS IMPLIMENTATION OF NEW OPRATIONAL GUIDLINES

After an extensive investigation, the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has substantiated allegations of violations of consumer rights by MultiChoice Nigeria Limited in the provision of its Digital Satellite Broadcast Television (DStv) service. Consequently, the Council has issued far-reaching orders, including suspension of service when consumers are away; release of free-to-air channels, even when subscription expires; compensation across board to consumers for lost viewing time, introduction of local toll free lines; and reasonable equitable spread of popular sports channels, among others. The multinational pay-media company is also required to present written assurances in line with Section 10 of the Council’s enabling law that it will not engage in any conduct which is detrimental to the interest of consumers. EFCC Arrests Diezani’s Husband Alison Madueke

Sources inside the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have disclosed to a SaharaReporters correspondent that Mr. Alison Amaechina Madueke, the husband to the embattled former Minister for Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, was arrested today.  Rear Admiral Alison Madueke, husband to embattled former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke Mr. Madueke was arrested this morning by EFCC agents in Abuja for illegally laundering more than $600,000 through his personal accounts. According to an EFCC source, “[Mr. Madueke] was arrested this morning [in Abuja] and released on administrative bail.” The EFCC also seized Mr. Madueke’s passport and placed him under caution. Drama as Female passenger dies inside Lagos airport toilet

A mild drama unfolded on Wednesday at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, when a middle – aged female passenger billed to travel with Etihad Airways died inside one of the toilets at the airport. Though details about the circumstances that led to her death were sketchy at press time, but she was believed to be traveling for medical treatment to a country yet to be determined. The deceased was said to have suffered a bout of pain that made her to rush to the toilet where she died. The Spokesman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Yakubu Dati, confirmed the incident. He said the agency was investigating the death and would give details of what happened later.

HOW DIEZANI MADUEKE APPROVED $24BN CRUDE SWAP WITHOUT CONTRACT

A former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Austin Oniwon, confirmed on Tuesday that there was no formal contract between the NNPC and trading companies that lifted $24bn worth of crude oil from the country between 2011 and 2014. Oniwon told the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Swap that a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, merely granted the “extension” of an earlier contract. He said the extension was not a formal contract before he (Oniwon) left office in 2012. The committee is chaired by an All Progressives Congress lawmaker from Kwara State, Mr. Zakari Mohammed. “There was an approval for the extension by the minister; I believe the records are with the NNPC,” he added. The NNPC began taking 445,000 barrels of crude daily in 2010 for refining in a bid to meet the country’s local demand of petroleum products.
