BREAKING: Nigerian govt. sacks another 20 heads of federal agencies, parastatals

The Presidency has issued the following statement announcing the removal of 20 more heads of federal parastatals and agencies. The list adds to the six heads of agencies under the Ministry of Information and Culture that were sacked earlier today. Read full statement below. 1. The use of WhatsApp, BBM, Skype, Facebook, may be regulated in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Communications Commission is considering a framework for the regulation of over-the-top services in the Nigerian telecoms market. Over-the-top services, otherwise known as OTT, are services carried over the networks, delivering value to customers, but without any carrier service provider being involved in planning, selling, provisioning, or servicing them. OTT services are offered through Internet communication. In Nigeria, the most common OTT services are WhatsApp messenger, BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, and Skype which are classified under social media applications. In other words, telecom operators such as MTN, Etisalat, Glo, and Airtel lack direct control or influence over WhatsApp messenger, BBM, Facebook or Skype.  FG Disengages Heads Of Information Parastatals. The Federal Government has disengaged the heads of the six information-rel ated parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the disengagement during a meeting he held with the Chief Executives of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Monday . The Minister directed the disengaged Chief Executives to hand over to the most senior officials in their various establishments. Group accuses Iran of meddling in Nigeria’s affairs

The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) has petitioned the United States Embassy, alleging attempts by the Iranian Government to promote insurgency and undermine the sovereignty of Nigeria by its support for the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, the Shi’ites. CESJET in the petition at the weekend said the Shi’ite group has constituted itself into a parallel authority, with no regards for the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 39-year-old Lanrewaju Jaiyeola,who feigned madness was arrested with 22 ATM cards, phones, bank tellers in Lagos State  A man who feigned madness has been arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of Lagos State Police Command with 22 Automatic Teller Machine, ATM, cards, two mobile phones and power bank along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road in Victoria Island. The 39-year-old man identified as Lanrewaju Jaiyeola, was said to have carried a backpack in a way that aroused suspicion which further fuelled his arrest by the police. A reliable police source said 22 assorted credit cards of different banks with different names, one Nokia phone, a blackberry, a power bank, several bank tellers of recent bank transactions and lots of invoices, amidst numerous pieces of papers, were found on him, Vanguard reports. In the aftermath of Kanye West's The Life of Pablo stream and recent Twitter missives, Rhymefest responded to questions on Twitter about his former collaborator. When asked about West's recent statements on Twitter, Rhymefest wrote, "My brother needs help, in the form of counseling," he said. "Spiritual and mental."
