The Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and civil society allies are holding  a protest today Monday, February 8, against the 45 per cent increase in electricity tariffs announced by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission. The protest is holding in Abuja and across the nation, the labour groups said in a statement today.  “It is a nation-wide protest, meaning that the 36 states of the Federation including Abuja will be involved in this action. Our members have been sufficiently mobilized. If you are an electricity consumer and you are not happy with the bills electricity companies serve you every month, you are invited to join this protest rally,” the statement signed by Ayuba Wabba, the NLC president, said while encouraging Nigerians. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has declared that Globacom is the leader in new internet subscriber acquisition in the country’s telecommunications industry. Based on a report on the 2015 third quarter (Q3)statistics currently on the NCC website, Globacom gained the highest number of internet users in September of 2015 with over a million new internet users on its network. The industry regulator said that Globacom had 21,896,229 internet users on its network as at the end of September, up from 20,765,379 data users in August; the figure showed an addition of 1,130,850 new internet subscribers. Globacom’s figure was much more than the total number of new internet users who joined the three other major telecom operators, MTN, Airtel, and Etisalat. The three recorded a combined total of 716,450 new internet subscribers in September. The closest to Globacom was MTN which recorded an additional 423,448 new internet users on its network. The South-South zone of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, has pulled out of the church. The zone alleged marginalisation, gross injustice in ministers’ remuneration; unhealthy rivalry among ministers, inefficiency and escalating administrative and financial malfeasance as reasons for pulling out. The zonal chairman, Central Working Committee, South-South General Council, Assemblies of God, Evang. The Department of State Service (DSS) had filed new charges against the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, stating that he left the Nigerian Army with proper resignation. Dasuki who is currently enmeshed in corrupt dealings and diversion of $2.1 billion meant for purchase of arms for the Nigerian Armed Forces will be held by the DSS. His new ordeal was revealed by Rotimi Jacobs at the last hearing of the suit against the retired Colonel at Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court last Thursday. Jacobs had attributed the refusal of government to set the former NSA free, in spite of the bail he has been granted by three different courts to this military past. The prosecuting counsel had told the court that Dasuki was a fugitive, having ran away from the Army without proper resignation. A randy man of God identified as Dukes (surname withheld) in Umunede, Delta State who has been accused of sleeping with his church members in the past two years, has allegedly impregnated seven of his single female church members and two married women. While trouble is currently brewing over the act, it was reliably gathered that the self-acclaimed man of God had also allegedly seduced several young girls in neighbouring communities: Ute-Ukpu, Otolokpo under the guise of providing them with suitors before he moved into Umunede after his cover was blown.
