Doctor ‘does head transplant on monkey’, plans to do a human next

A maverick surgeon who plans to transplant a human head onto another body has successfully performed the operation on a monkey, he claims. Sergio Canavero made the shocking claim after a series of experiments on animals and human corpses, according to New Scientist. Canavero said, ‘The monkey fully survived the procedure without any neurological injury of whatever kind.’ Canavero claims that researchers led by Xiaoping Ren at Harbin Medical University connected up the blood supply between the head and the new body. They did not attempt to connect the spinal cord – but Canavero says that the experiment shows that if a monkey’s head is cooled to -15 °C it can survive the operation without brain injury. New Scientist points out that no one has as yet verified Canavero’s claims. Canavero already has a volunteer patient, a severely ill Russian man, Valery Spiridonov, who is willing to attempt the procedure despite the enormous and unknown risks. Immigration and traffic officers engage in free-for-all in Ogun

Pandemonium broke out, on Tuesday afternoon, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, when armed officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service stormed the zonal command office of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and beat up four officers of the traffic agency. Tribune Online gathered ‎that the invasion of the NIS officers was a reprisal attack on the traffic officers whose men were allegedly reported to have attacked an unnamed immigration officer in the day. It was learnt that eight traffic officers had earlier in the day beaten up a senior officer of the NIS at Sapon area of the town. The immigration officer, with the rank of Chief Superintendent, was said to have parked at an obstruction in the area and this resulted in an argument between the traffic and immigration officers over breach of traffic rules. It was further learnt that an attempt by the traffic officers to remove the number plate of the vehicle of the immigration officer was resisted...

WATCH THE NEW TRAILER FOR ‘BARBERSHOP 3: THE NEXT CUT

Ice Cube has consistently produced classics when it comes to African-American comedies, and the Barbershop franchise is a treasure to watch for more than comedic purposes. Calvin’s barbershop is located in Chicago and the producers never shy away from current issues the communities in the city seem to be facing, from the lack of jobs in the first film (remember the scene where dude ran away without paying for his haircut, and we later found out he was going to a job interview and couldn’t afford it?) to tackling gentrification and shady city officials in Barbershop 2. There’s a clip showing a sequence of both gang members and cops driving by, while Calvin voices his concerns of raising his teenage son Jalen. “I’m not trying to get that call in the middle of the night saying my son is locked up, or worse.” It looks like the focus of the third installment will be #BarbershopSavesTheNeighborhood. The trailer shows we’ll still get the hilarious “Battle of The Sexes” arguments, bu...
