LG Display has been working on its fully flexible screen for some time now, but it’s at this year’s CES the BBC was given the exclusive first hands-on. The screen can be rolled up and scrunched around, and the display is full HD. The one I played with was 18in (45.7cm) corner to corner, but the team at LG say they’re aiming for screens that are 55in and beyond. At that size they will be able to produce a screen quality of 4K, they say – that’s four times HD. Right now, the resolution is 1,200 by 810 pixels. How did they do it? Of course they wouldn’t share the precise details, but the crucial technological leap has been moving from LED TVs to OLED TVs. A huge fire ripped through a luxury Dubai hotel Thursday night as people gathered to watch New Year’s Eve celebrations, injuring at least 16 people, authorities said. Dubai’s government media office tweeted that a “fire has been reported in the Address Downtown hotel. Authorities are currently on-site to address the incident swiftly and safely”. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. The 63-storey building, which is close to Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, was engulfed in flames across several floors as sirens wailed and helicopters hovered overhead, witnesses said. An Appeal Court has declared the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Mr Alex Otti, as winner of the Abia State Governorship election. A new study by Nigerian researchers which was published in the Journal of Pharmacy and Biological Science has claimed that SAAAB and HAABS – bitter leaf-based supplements – can cure hepatitis. Clinical trials of the drugs demonstrated that the herbal preparations made predominantly from bitter leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) provide cure for chronic forms of Hepatitis B and C. About 23 million Nigerians are infected with Hepatitis B, and 11 die every day, making Nigeria one of the countries with the highest hepatitis burden in the world. Lead researcher, Ben Amodu of the Halamin Herbal Products in Abuja and lecturer at the Department of Histopathology and Cytology, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), said herbal medicine could succeed where orthodox one has failed in the treatment of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
