Biafra: IPOB Leader Kanu Apologizes To Buhari, Jonathan, Igbo elders

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed regret for referring to President Muhammadu Buhari as a terrorist, evil and a paedophile in his radio broadcasts. Kanu, who has been charged along with two others by the Federal Government before a Federal High Court in Abuja on six counts of treason and other ancillary offences, said he intended to write a private letter to Buhari to express his apology to the President. He also apologised to former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for “some uncomplimentary things” he said about them. The 48-year-old pro-Biafran agitation leader, who is, however, unapologetic about his demand for a Republic of Biafra, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest in Lagos on October 14, 2015. He tendered the apology for his comment against Buhari and others in a statement which he made to the DSS on October 23. The prosecution, in its summary of the case,...

Dear Buhari, It Looks Like Your Aides Are Lying To You [OPEN LETTER]

Dear President Buhari, We are in dangerous times, and your actions, or inactions, will count for a lot. The truth is that whenever someone begins a project, especially a project which he has fought so hard for, it is important to make haste, lest motivation wanes. If motivation wanes, there is a clear and present danger of the entire project faltering. That, is the cliff down which we all stare at the moment, including you, no, especially you. The wind in the sails which swept you to office just over half a year ago are beginning to dissipate, and no other scenario illustrates this better than what is happening in the North East at the moment. I’d rather not, at this point, dwell on the fact that the buck stops at your table, and for my own, selfish reasons. I voted you, and at this point, I don’t want to accept that I may have made a mistake. In voting you, I had hoped that if anything, I’d be looking at an end to the Boko Haram nonsense post haste. That has not happened. Rather...

APC, Ekiti govt bicker over Fayose’s alleged Dubai trip •Fayose insensitive to workers’ plight

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has decried what it said was Governor Ayodele Fayose’s Christmas Dubai trip and described the alleged trip as “a reckless insensitivity to the workers’ plight.” The APC, in a statement, on Tuesday, by its publicity secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said it was “a height of irresponsibility by the governor to embark on private comfort abroad while state workers live in miserable conditions during festive Yuletide season.” But the state government decried what it said was “APC’s usual ludicrous vituperations” and said Governor Fayose was “on holiday like any other worker who has worked conscientiously throughout the year.” Olatunbosun had specifically alleged that the governor refused “to pay workers’ salary for three months while embarking on foreign Christmas trip through over-bloated expenses costing Ekiti people N250 million.” But the state Commissioner for Information, Youth and Sports, Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, said: “The governor is on h...

In Anambra Police man kills three.

Only four days after scores of people tragically lost their lives in a ghastly explosion at a gas plant, the industrial town of Nnewi, again, bore witness to another tragedy when a policeman went berserk on December 27 and shot dead three people at a traditional marriage ceremony at Uruagu-Nnewi in Anambra State. A witness of the occurrence, who identified himself simply as Ifeanyi, said the bride was dancing with the groom, the just-wedded couple being lavishly sprayed with crispy naira and dollar notes by merry family and friends when sound of gunshots were heard just outside the compound around 6:30pm. Ifeanyi claimed that a guest ran inside and informed the celebrants on what transpired outside leading to the ceremony’s abrupt stop. It unfolded that an alleged drunk policeman had shot down three persons said to be prominent Nollywood actors, who had come to celebrate the marital union. The inebriated policeman was disarmed by fellow security agents at the scene. When contacted,...

Lai Mohammed Insists Boko Haram Is Defeated " isolated bomb attacks on soft targets should not be mixed up with the terrorism"

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that media should stop “giving oxygen to the Boko Haram”, adding that the war cannot be successful without the cooperation of newsmen. The minister of information believes the Nigerian army has mainly succeeded in defeating the insurgency because the militants are now “only operating from one or two local governments”. Speaking to the Channel Television’s Sunrise Daily he said: “Just as I said in my meeting with the newspapers editors in Lagos on the 21st of December, the military has largely met the deadline to defeat Boko Haram, and the military has matched the capacity of terrorists to carry out the attacks they used to. “Of course, I also mentioned that the terrorists will continue to attack such targets as markets, motor parks, entertainment centres and houses of worship; and this is exactly what is going on. “We know that in an insurgency, the war does not end in one day. The attack on soft targets will continue,...
