Kenyans mock 'visiting' president Uhuru Kenyatta

After criticism over government spending on foreign trips, Kenyans joke and vent anger on social media. #UhuruInKenya #KoT (Kenyans on Twitter) have taken aim at Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta for his frequent foreign travel. Using the hashtag #UhuruInKenya, a play on the #ObamaInKenya tag used when the US leader visited in July, they mocked Kenyatta as though he were a leader on an official visit.

Protesters Flood The Streets Of Bayelsa In Defiance Of Police Orders.

Earlier today, the Nigerian police warned that it would not tolerate protest in Bayelsa but many aggrieved men and women took to the streets to stage a protest in the state. The protesters went to  the INEC office in the state with claims that the results to be read by INEC officials have been falsified as no election held in some parts of Southern Ijaw. United Nation Hears Petition on Repressive Social Media Bill in Nigeria.

The petition filed by SERAP to the United Nations over the proposed bill by the senate to gag the social media is currently being attended to by a UN agency. The UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Mr. David Kaye is considering the urgent appeal against the bill repressive social media bill known as ‘A Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and other Matters Connected therewith’, rights group Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has confirmed. In a statement today by SERAP executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni the organisation said that, “SERAP can confirm that the Office of the Special Rapporteur is now considering our petition. We have received communication from Marcelo Daher at the Office of the Special Rapporteur to this effect. BREAKING: Bayelsa: INEC cancels election in Southern Ijaw, declares election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cancelled Saturday’s Bayelsa State governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area — one of the state’s eight LGAs. The decision, which will soon be announced officially by INEC, means the elections are inconclusive. INEC said the decision was taken because of violence, the abduction of electoral officials and ballot box snatching. The election will be conducted in due date. Governor Seriake Dickson has a clear lead in the election, according to results announced so far by INEC. Mr. Dickson, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, won in majority of the seven local government areas announced on Sunday by INEC.
