Nigeria's Former Education Minister 'Aja Nwachukwu' is Dead

A former minister of education of the federal republic of Nigeria, Aja Nwachukwu, has passed on while receiving treatment at an Israeli hospital. Aged 63, Aja-Nwachuku, a native of Okposi in Ebonyi, was born in 1952 and appointed minister of education in 2007. His father was Nigeria’s first minister of education. The former minister’s younger brother, Festus Aja-Nwachukwu, said his elder brother died on Nov. 17. The former minister, who served during the administration of President Umaru Yar’Adua, had been receiving treatment at an Israeli hospital for about four weeks before passing on. Festus said he could not readily say the cause of his elder brother’s death until the death certificate was issued by the hospital. He said that details of the burial arrangement would be made public in due course.

A Nigerian-born, British human rights activist, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has about 48hours to shut down the Nigerian Embassy in UK or risk the chance of an all out breakdown of law and order. The activist, Professor Alexia Thomas, warned that the high rate of corruption at the Nigerian Embassy in the UK has given cause for agitation. She added that protesters and angry Nigerians are likely to set fire on the Nigerian House, if the president does not heed the call. Alexia who doubles as Chairman of the Commonwealth Liberation Party (TCLP), a registered political party in United Kingdom (UK) and President of the Independent Diplomat Commission (IDC), said the embassy has to be shut due to unchecked corruption, fraud, illegal arrest, and criminal torture of Nigerians detained in various British immigration centers across the Queen’s enclave. Dasuki releases breakdown of arms purchases, says “Nigerians will hear a lot”

The immediate past National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) has given his side of the story on the arms procurement saga which has pitted him against the incumbent federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement on Wednesday, Dasuki insisted he was never invited to appear before an Investigative Panel on the Procurement of hardware and munitions in the armed forces. Man kills own children in Kaduna

A middle aged man, on Wednesday in Kaduna slaughtered four of his children and attempted to kill himself after an alleged quarrel with his wife. Neighbours said that the man had quarreled with his wife throughout the night, forcing her to leave the house located on Ahmadu Bello Street in Kawo area of Kaduna metropolis. Thereafter, the man allegedly locked the entrance to the house and used a knife to slaughter the four children aged between one to six years. One of his children who was not in the house at the time, alerted the ward head of the area, when he found the door to the residence locked from inside on Wednesday afternoon. When the neighbours and some policemen forced the door to the house open, the children were already dead while their father was still alive but in serious condition.
