Ohanaeze Ndigbo Cancels Igbo Day Celebration.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday declared that there would be no formal activity to mark the 2015 Igbo day celebration. The event is usually celebrated yearly on September 29. President-General of Ohanaeze, Enwo Igariwey, who briefed journalists on the outcome of a meeting at Ohanaeze secretariat in Enugu, said this was a time for sober reflection. Apparently referring to the outcome of the 2015 presidential election where Ohanaeze’s choice, former President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated, he said “we had a meeting, a select group met in-house with Ohanaeze executive to discuss the Igbo day celebration. “It will be held low-key; branches are free to celebrate the Igbo day as they want, but at the national level, we have decided on a review. The situation of things in the country calls for tact and unity among Ndigbo. This is also why the theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Ako na Uche; Njiko Aka’ (tact and unity).” Igariwey...

LAWMA Official Arrested For Stealing Cables (Pictured)

The police in Lagos have arrested an official of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Ibrahim Alli, for allegedly vandalising and stealing the cables that supplied power to streetlights in the Opebi, Ikeja area of the state. PUNCH Metro learnt that 29-year-old Alli, said to be a member of a two-man syndicate, was arrested on Friday, September 25, in the area. The police said the suspect works with LAWMA in the Onipanu area, while his accomplice, identified only as Yunusa, evaded arrest. They said a manhunt had been launched for him. Our correspondent learnt that the police recovered items, including electrical cables, a shovel, a LAWMA identity card, and one wristwatch from the suspect. Alli, from Adamawa State, in his statement to the police, confessed to the crime, adding that it was Yunusa who introduced the idea to him. Police Constable Kills 2 Inspectors, Commits Suicide In Yobe

A Police constable went on rampage on a shooting spree on Friday in Yobe state, killing two inspectors before turning the gun on himself. The incident happened at about 6:40 am on Friday at Nengere Local Government area of the state following a disagreement among the policemen. The state police command spokesperson, ASP Toyin Gbadegesin confirmed the incident saying the two inspectors were confirmed dead but the constable was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Daily Trust correspondent reports that trouble started the inspectors were about to hand over morning duties at the Nengere police station. Police source revealed that the constable refused to take orders from the inspector on duty, and they both resolved to lock him (the killer constable) up in the station's cell.
